Why Choose Private Lessons?
-
18 Years of Experience.
I’ve been conducting private and group guitar lessons in Guildford since 2006. In this time, I’ve taught lessons from home and worked as a visiting tutor in school and college environments. This varied experience has led me to understand how to adapt to the needs of each individual and change my teaching style to allow each student to get the most from every lesson.

Every Student is Different.
Every student learns in a different way, some may want to use sheet music but others may prefer to learn by ear. Some students prefer to pick up on detail, whilst others like to focus on the bigger picture. I believe it’s essential to establish the learning process for each student so that I can deliver the best lessons possible.
-
Blues, Rock, Jazz, Pop, Classical. I've got you covered.
Everyone has varying tastes in music but whatever your favourite style, genre or guitar player, I can help you to sound like your heroes. From Bach to Hendrix, Sambora to Sheeran - I’ve got you covered.
-
Get Graded.
Following a graded syllabus doesn’t work for everyone but it can provide a unique level of structure and continuity in learning. This can suit many students, at different levels who are keen to pursue a goal and target.
A few words from Charlie…
My lessons are tailored to the individual, regardless of level, goals or playing experience. Because everybody learns differently, the lessons need to be customised to suit the learning style of each student.
Whilst I know that grades aren’t for everyone, I take many students through the grade process because of the structured approach which they provide. I am familiar with Rockschool, RGT, Trinity and ABRSM classical guitar grades and have entered many of my students for examinations from grade one through to eight. I can can also help prepare students for A level or GCSE music exams, or provide additional support for revision or special music projects.

“When learning an instrument, enjoyment is the important thing and I most commonly find that students have become a bit stuck in a rut with their playing. This is very common and can easily be overcome with a bit of careful guidance.”
